Travel Consultant Name: Sarah Aspire Travel
Job Title: Senior Travel Consultant
Tour Operator Hosting the Trip: Mayor Hotels & Resorts
Destination Visited: Corfu
Dates of Travel: 1st to 4th October 2026
Type of Trip: Educational Imagine slow Mediterranean mornings, turquoise Ionian waters, beautifully designed hotels, exceptional food and sunsets that make you want to pause for just a little longer. Aspire Travel’s Senior Travel Consultant Sarah Tracey recently visited Corfu on a four-day familiarisation trip hosted by Mayor Hotels & Resorts. From contemporary waterfront luxury at Mayor Unda to the intimate suites of Restia and the adults-only serenity of Cabo, Sarah discovered a more refined, restorative side of this much-loved Greek island.

Discovering Corfu with Mayor Hotels
When people think of Corfu, they might picture traditional Greek villages, sandy beaches and long, sun-filled days beside the sea. But Sarah's recent visit reminded her that the island has so much more to offer, particularly for travellers looking for understated luxury, exceptional hospitality and a slower pace of life.

From 1 to 4 October 2026, Sarah travelled to Corfu on a familiarisation trip hosted by Mayor Hotels & Resorts, with the opportunity to experience its properties first-hand and discover more about the island.

Their host was Dimitris Psycharis, whose warmth, knowledge and fantastic sense of humour made the experience even more memorable.

The purpose of the trip was to get beneath the surface of the destination, understand the individual character of each hotel and discover which properties would best suit different clients.

And one thing became clear very quickly: there is a Mayor hotel for different types of luxury traveller, but the common thread is beautiful design, great food and a strong sense of place.
This was Corfu at its more relaxed and sophisticated best.

Mayor Unda Hotel: Contemporary Luxury on Corfu’s North Coast
Their base for the trip was the magnificent five-star Mayor Unda Hotel, a beautifully designed waterfront property on Corfu’s northern coast.

From the moment Sarah arrived, there was an immediate sense of calm. The design is contemporary and sophisticated, with exquisite attention to detail and an atmosphere that feels luxurious without being overly formal.

The hotel has 116 rooms, with plans to expand to 180 by 2028, and offers three main accommodation styles: Deluxe Rooms, Swim-up Suites and Junior Suites.

For Sarah, the appeal is the way the hotel combines modern luxury with the natural beauty of its surroundings. The Ionian Sea is right there, the gardens add to the feeling of tranquillity, and the overall atmosphere encourages you to slow down.

Guests can choose between Half Board and All Inclusive, with food that really stood out throughout my stay.

Families are welcome, although there are no dedicated children's facilities, so she'd particularly consider Unda for couples, honeymooners and families who prioritise excellent accommodation, dining and time together rather than a resort packed with children's activities.

A beautiful setting with a Greek village close by
One of the things I particularly liked about Unda was that it didn't feel isolated from local life.

A short walk to the left takes you towards Roda, a traditional Greek village with tavernas, shops and a lovely stretch of sandy beach. There are also opportunities to enjoy watersports, making it easy to combine relaxed hotel days with a little local exploration.

Head in the other direction and you'll find Almyros and access to the wider northern coastline.

This is the kind of location Sarah loves recommending to customers who want their hotel to feel like a destination in itself, but who also want the freedom to step outside and discover a little more of authentic Corfu.

Restia Hotel: Intimate, Understated and Restorative
An afternoon visit to Restia Hotel revealed a completely different interpretation of luxury.
Located on Corfu's north-east coast, close to Acharavi and around ten minutes from Unda, Restia is an intimate property with just 32 rooms and suites.

The atmosphere is quieter and more personal, with understated luxury throughout.

Premium Rooms and Suites, including options with private pools, create a sense of privacy that makes this a particularly appealing choice for couples and travellers looking to properly switch off.

Guests can choose between Half Board and All Inclusive, and both the food and service made a real impression.

The setting is another highlight. With a beautiful sandy beach nearby and lovely sunset views, Restia is all about enjoying the simple pleasures of a Mediterranean escape.
Long lunches. Time by the water. A beautifully prepared dinner. An evening watching the sky change colour.

It is a property that doesn't need to shout about luxury. It lets the surroundings, service and experience speak for themselves.

For customers who want a restorative holiday with a more intimate feel, Restia would certainly be one to consider.

Mayor Cabo: Adults-Only Serenity in the South
The visit to Mayor Cabo took us to the southern coast of Corfu, where the landscape and atmosphere felt different again.

This is a five-star, adults-only, all-inclusive property in a seafront location, just steps from Asprokavos Beach.

With only 60 rooms, including Superior Doubles and Junior Suites, Cabo offers a more intimate experience for adults seeking peace, privacy and a sense of escape.

The coastline is beautiful, with clear waters, dramatic scenery and spectacular sunsets providing the backdrop.

Two fantastic pool areas add to the experience, giving guests space to relax and enjoy the surroundings without needing a packed schedule.

Cabo particularly appealed to me as a hotel for couples, friends travelling together and anyone who wants a sophisticated adults-only holiday where the focus is on the sea, food, relaxation and attentive service.

It is also a lovely option for travellers who prefer an All Inclusive stay but want something with a more intimate and elevated atmosphere than a large resort.

Three hotels, three different experiences
One of the most valuable parts of this trip was being able to compare the hotels in person.
Mayor Unda is contemporary and stylish, with waterfront views, a choice of room categories and easy access to local life in Roda.

Restia is intimate and restorative, with just 32 rooms and suites, a more understated approach to luxury and a beautiful coastal setting.

Cabo is adults-only and All Inclusive, offering a peaceful retreat on the southern coastline.

All three share an emphasis on food, service and considered design, but the experience is different at each one.

And that is exactly why first-hand hotel knowledge matters. The best choice isn't necessarily the most expensive property or the one with the most facilities. It is the hotel that matches the experience a customer actually wants.

Corfu Town: A Little Venetian Elegance
Although the hotels were a major focus of the trip, no visit to Corfu would feel complete without exploring Corfu Town.

Around an hour from Unda, the island's historic capital is well worth making time for.
Corfu Town is a captivating blend of Venetian architecture, Greek island character and Mediterranean charm. Narrow streets open into hidden corners, cafés and boutiques, while lively bars and restaurants bring plenty of atmosphere.

The historic setting provides a wonderful contrast to the island's beaches and coastal hotels.
You can spend time wandering without a strict itinerary, pause for a coffee, browse the shops or simply take in the architecture and atmosphere.

For Sarah, this is an important part of Corfu's appeal. It isn't just a destination for relaxing by the sea; it also has culture, history and local character to discover.

She'd encourage customers staying on the island to allow time for Corfu Town, especially if they enjoy exploring beyond their hotel.

The North and South: Two Sides of Corfu
One of Sarah's biggest surprises was just how lush, green and mountainous Corfu is.

The island feels wonderfully scenic, and travelling between different areas reveals contrasting coastlines, viewpoints and villages.

The northern coast, where they stayed at Unda, has a particularly beautiful setting overlooking the Ionian Sea, with Albania visible across the water in places.

The south offers a different perspective, with dramatic coastal scenery, clear blue waters and views towards neighbouring islands.

The Blue Lagoon and the surrounding waters are especially appealing for anyone interested in exploring by boat, enjoying the coastline or simply finding somewhere beautiful to sit and admire the view.

Corfu's variety makes it possible to create different types of holiday, whether you want to spend most of your time at a beautiful hotel or combine relaxation with island exploration.

Food and Drink: A Real Highlight
For me, the food was one of the standouts of this trip.

The Mayor Hotels offer different dining experiences, with an emphasis on fresh
Mediterranean ingredients, local flavours and contemporary cuisine.

At Unda, the offering includes wellness-led dining and Nikkei influences, creating a modern approach to the culinary experience.

At Restia, the focus includes authentic Corfiot cooking, giving guests the opportunity to enjoy the island's local food culture.

At Cabo, the Mediterranean dining offering adds to the relaxed All Inclusive experience.

What impressed Sarah was the way food felt like a central part of each hotel's identity, rather than simply something included as part of a stay.

And Corfu itself offers plenty to discover.
The island is known for its kumquats, which feature in an array of local products including liqueurs, syrups, sweets, marmalades and candied fruit.

Greek wines are also worth exploring. Robola and Kakotrygis are among the grape varieties to look out for, offering another way to connect with the region through its food and drink.

For travellers who love good dining, local flavours and evenings that revolve around a beautiful meal, Corfu has plenty to recommend it.

Getting to Corfu: Easier Than You Might Think
Another positive discovery was how accessible the island felt.

Flights from the Midlands typically take around three hours to three hours and fifteen minutes, making Corfu a manageable option for a Mediterranean escape.

Depending on the season, local time can be up to two hours ahead of the UK.

Transfers to the northern or southern parts of the island are approximately an hour, depending on the route and traffic. The drive itself is part of the experience, with green, mountainous landscapes and beautiful views along the way.

The roads felt surprisingly good during our visit, and the island was easy to explore without spending huge amounts of time travelling.

That makes Corfu particularly appealing for travellers who want to see more of the island while still having plenty of time to relax at their hotel.

When Is the Best Time to Visit Corfu?
Corfu has a relatively long season for a European island destination.

Visitors begin arriving from March, with Easter celebrations bringing a particularly interesting cultural dimension to the island. The season continues into autumn, and sunshine can often be enjoyed into mid-October.

October can be a lovely time to experience a quieter side of Corfu, although conditions vary, so it's worth considering your priorities when choosing dates.

If you're looking for a summer beach holiday, the warmer months may be the natural choice.

If you'd prefer a more relaxed atmosphere with opportunities to explore, travelling towards the beginning or end of the main season may be worth considering.

The best time for you will depend on whether you're prioritising swimming, dining outdoors, exploring the island or simply enjoying the facilities at your chosen hotel.

My Top Tips for Visiting Corfu
After experiencing the island and its hotels first-hand, these are the tips I'd share with customers planning a trip.

Pack light. Lightweight summer clothing, linen, swimwear and cover-ups are perfect for the relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere.

Bring water shoes. Depending on the beach, these can be useful where the shoreline is pebbly.

Don't forget mosquito repellent. It's a sensible item to pack, particularly when spending time outdoors in the evenings.

Plan a visit to Corfu Town. Allow time to wander through the historic streets, enjoy a café and explore the shops and restaurants.

Choose your hotel carefully. The three Mayor properties each have a distinct personality, and choosing the right one will make a real difference to your holiday.

Think about the atmosphere you want. Corfu can be lively, but the Mayor properties Sarah visited are particularly well suited to travellers who appreciate a slower, more sophisticated style of holiday.

Leave room in your itinerary for doing very little. Some of the most memorable parts of a Mediterranean escape are the unplanned moments: a long lunch, a swim, a beautiful view or a sunset by the sea.

Who Would I Recommend Corfu To?
After this trip, I would particularly recommend Corfu to travellers who appreciate a combination of beautiful accommodation, great food, coastal scenery and local character.

Couples and honeymooners
The intimate settings, romantic dining and private-feeling spaces at Mayor's properties make them appealing choices for couples looking for a special getaway.

Luxury travellers
For customers who value thoughtful design, excellent service, beautiful surroundings and a strong sense of place, the Mayor Hotels offer different interpretations of contemporary luxury.

Food and wine lovers
From fresh Mediterranean ingredients and Corfiot cooking to local wines and kumquat specialities, there's plenty to enjoy beyond the hotel grounds.

Nature and sea lovers
The island's lush greenery, mountainous landscapes, beaches and clear waters make it an appealing destination for anyone who loves being close to nature.

Travellers seeking a slower pace
If the perfect holiday means relaxing by the sea, enjoying leisurely meals and taking in beautiful views without having to fill every day with activities, Corfu is well worth considering.

The Mayor hotels are not all about non-stop entertainment, and that is part of their appeal. They are particularly suited to guests who want relaxation, comfort and quality over a packed activity schedule.

What Did Sarah Learn from This Trip?
The biggest lesson was that there really is a Mayor hotel to suit different types of travellers.
Experiencing Unda, Restia and Cabo in person helped Sarah understand the differences in atmosphere, accommodation, dining and location.

It also gave Sarah a better appreciation of Corfu itself: a green and scenic island where you can combine beautiful hotels with village visits, historic streets, beaches, boat trips and incredible Mediterranean food.

That first-hand insight means she can now make more informed recommendations. Rather than simply comparing photographs or room descriptions, Sarah can talk about the feeling of each property and which type of customer is likely to enjoy it most.

And that's what Sarah wants for my customers: a holiday that feels right for them.

A Huge Thank You to Dimitris and Mayor Hotels

A massive thank you to Mayor Hotels & Resorts for hosting such a wonderful familiarisation trip, and especially to Dimitris Psycharis.

Affectionately known as “my crazy Greek friend”, Dimitris was an absolute delight to spend time with: attentive, professional, knowledgeable, warm and incredibly funny.

The trip was organised so well, and the opportunity to experience these properties first-hand was invaluable.

Sarah returns with a new appreciation for Corfu, a much deeper understanding of the Mayor Hotels and plenty of inspiration for helping our customers find their perfect Greek island escape.

Would Sarah Go Back to Corfu?
One hundred per cent. In a heartbeat.

Corfu leaves you feeling relaxed, restored and immersed in the Mediterranean way of life.

There is something wonderfully effortless about the island: slow mornings, long lunches, beautiful sunsets and warm hospitality.

Sarah loved the combination of natural beauty, character and understated luxury. And having experienced the Mayor Hotels first-hand; she can see why they would appeal to customers looking for something special without needing a busy, activity-filled resort.

She'd happily return to enjoy more of the coastline, revisit Corfu Town, discover more local food and spend a little longer doing what the island does best: encouraging you to slow down.
