Travel Consultant: Amy Role: Travel Consultant Host Tour Operator: Riviera Travel Destination: France – The Seine "Gastronomy on the Seine" Dates: 16th–23rd October Trip Type: River Cruise Educational

What was the purpose of the trip?
This educational trip gave me the opportunity to experience a Riviera river cruise first-hand, test excursions, and build my destination knowledge - all essential to helping clients make informed holiday choices.
Who organised the trip?
The trip was hosted by Riviera Travel, who ensured every detail was seamless and memorable.
Accommodation: Where did you stay and what stood out?
I stayed in the Jane Austin suite, and it was absolutely impeccable. The cabin was beautifully furnished, with stunning views of the Seine at every turn. Comfort and attention to detail were noticeable throughout the ship.
Excursions and site visits
Highlights included visiting the D-Day landing beaches, and exploring local farms and restaurants to truly experience authentic French gastronomy. Every excursion offered a mix of history, culture, and local flavour.
Standout moments
The tranquillity of sailing out of each port was unforgettable, combined with the friendliness and attentiveness of the crew onboard. It’s the kind of experience that stays with you.
Who is this destination best suited to?
River cruises like this are ideal for older travellers or anyone who enjoys adventure with comfort.
Key learnings to help clients
Knowledge of excursion locations, mobility considerations, and evening attire (casual-smart)
Noise isn’t an issue onboard - ships are small and intimate
Dining accommodates allergies and dietary preferences seamlessly
Surprising discoveries
Monet’s House was breathtaking but very busy in the mornings. The D-Day landing excursions were handled thoughtfully - multi-national guests are guided to visit the graves and memorials most relevant to them.
Food and drink
The onboard dining was excellent. Staff remembered guests’ preferences, accommodated allergies, and always provided fresh, high-quality meals.
Travel experience
Flights were smooth, tour guides were fantastic and accommodating, and check-in at ports was handled effortlessly despite large groups arriving at once.
Top tips for clients
Upgrading to the Diamond Deck is worth it — the views are absolutely stunning!
Would I go back?
Absolutely! I would love to experience the Christmas markets along the Seine. I can imagine the festive decorations combined with the scenic views from the boat would be magical.
